Growing private MF Real Estate firm on the westside of LA is seeking an
experienced operating CFO to join their company. This person must have proven
experience within the C Suite previously, and have a CPA with public accounting
background. Strong career experience in Multi-Family real estate and experience
raising and structuring funds and capital from private investor is required.
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be responsible for the day-to-day administrative, financial, and regulatory operations of the company. This includes leading the Finance team to oversee budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and the optimization of back office financial and IT systems. The CFO will
serve as a strategic advisor and partner to the CEO, and member of the Executive Leadership Team, helping to drive performance by providing fact-based analysis and strategic financial direction.
The CFO will be office based in the LA headquarters and will lead a team of employees across all areas of Finance and Accounting.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively manage a team of people to ensure the day-to-day financials and operations (budget, payroll, benefits and expense re-imbursement, facilities).
- Lead the Acquisitions and Dispositions of assets including modeling and scenario planning for multiple transaction opportunities, tax implications, leverage and risk management.
- Oversee the management and financial operations of the portfolio’s assets.
- Successfully manage accurate and timely quarterly / yearly reporting and filings of all assets.
- Together with the fund administrators, ensure that all capital calls are made accurately / on time and the money is allocated accurately.
- Maintain and nurture relationships with LP’s.
- Be an active participant in Fundraising and Fund management by:
- Providing recommendations on how to structure investments.
- Communicating the fund-level implications of different fund structures.
- Providing guidance on financial reporting and corporate finance practices.
- Mastering the fund documents’ financial, tax, and regulatory implications and communicating those to stakeholders.
- Supporting the Fundraising team with financial insights and suggestions during negotiations and documentation phase.
- Supporting Fundraising and Investor Relations by being responsive to questions and consistently providing timely and proactive communication.
- Lead the ongoing optimization of back-office platforms by assessing IT tools, processes, service providers etc.
- Provide leadership to the Finance Team, as well as oversight to external service providers and contractors.
- Manage financial and business performance by developing appropriate metrics, monitoring variances to forecasts, and developing action plans to address variances. Work with operational teams to identify and address trends, implement corrective actions and performance improvement actions.
- Assist the CEO and Executive Team in the development and execution of operating policies and procedures as needed.
Qualifications:
- BS in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- CPA strongly required
- Prior alternative asset class fund experience preferably PE and real estate, and management of a portfolio of assets.
- Experience working with funds> $25M and >50 LPs.
- Prior responsibility for fund operations and administration including regulatory, compliance, tax, audit and portfolio management.
- Experience managing banking relationships and external vendors.
- Strong working knowledge of financial planning and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, accounting, risk management, compliance, tax, treasure, and audit.
- Hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic environment.
- An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral and written skills and a willingness to share information.
- Strong analytical skills and experience operationalizing a strategic vision.
- A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality.
- Demonstrable passion for driving results.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
Compensation for this role includes a base salary between $250-300k.
