Our client, is a rapidly growing and well-funded business development company that invests in debt and income generating equity securities including specialty finance businesses.   This is an exciting opportunity to join the team and help support our ambitious growth goals.  We are seeking an experienced controller to work directly with the CFO on a variety of fund accounting and reporting processes.  The ideal candidate will have public accounting experience and proven industry specific experience as an accountant. Fund accounting experience is a must and SEC reporting experience is preferred.  The incumbent must be a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst who will make it their mission to streamline our monthly and quarterly close and consolidation processes, and financial reporting processes.  This is an exciting opportunity join a growing company as an integral part of our finance team. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain focus on internal controls over financial reporting, continuous improvement of accounting policies and procedures, standardization of accounting practices, and compliance
  • Coordinate investment/cash activity, balances, related income and accruals for funds
  • Manage expense/ accrual budgeting and reconciliations for the funds
  • Valuation of investments
  • Preparing Board documents for quarterly valuation calls
  • Develop solid, repeatable processes for fund reporting including preparing supporting schedules for financial reporting, keeping current on rule changes and situation changes that could impact requirements, and coordinating with auditors on quarterly reviews and annual audit
  • Prepare N2, proxy, and 8-K filings, including supporting documents and calculations
  • Coordinating and preparing 10Q/K documents for SEC filings
  • Assist and manage external audit, quarterly reviews, etc. and interface with auditors on all requests
  • Assist in day to day management of office operational and administrative matters
  • Assist CFO with adhoc accounting matters, including research and the preparation of technical accounting memos
  • Assist with accounting and controls at our subsidiary companies through coordination with subsidiary management

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Business Administration, Finance or related discipline; CPA required
  • Thorough understanding of and experience with public company internal controls
  • Strong experience in fund accounting and fund reporting
  • Strong track record of building and managing successful teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage recurring processes and monthly/quarterly close calendars
  • Process-oriented, hands-on approach with attention to detail, organization, reliability and a “get it done” attitude
  • Analytical, organized, disciplined, and self-motivated
  • Excellent presentation and communication with C-level executives and Board Members
  • Experience and interest in technical accounting research and application

Salary Range is 200-250k plus full benefits
