The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining inventory, cost of goods, and overhead valuation accuracy and reporting to senior management and executives with analysis and information needed to make major operational, financial, and strategic decisions. This individual will also oversee the overall standard costing and physical inventory processes and be a key contributor to the month- and year-end close, external audit, annual budgeting & forecasting process, variance analysis, and other financial performance tools. This position has high visibility across the organization and will work with multiple functional groups in a rapidly growing clean technology manufacturing & engineering company, with high interaction with the CFO and other senior executives for the Company.



·      Understanding of US GAAP and financial reporting standards especially with inventory accounting and revenue recognition; public accounting or audit experience a plus

·      Detailed knowledge of cost accounting, standard costing, bill of material management, overhead calculations, excess & obsolete calculations, etc.

·      Experience working with large ERP software programs with detailed experience of the inventory module; JD Edwards preferred and must be comfortable working with manual data sets

·      Experience leading the annual physical inventory and cycle count process for both internal and external audits

·      Experience working in a manufacturing & engineering environment with multiple functional groups

·      Detail oriented and organized with ability to synthesize complex business data and communicate sound and insightful conclusions in an effective manner

·      Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (V-look, sumif(s), pivot tables, etc.) and ability to build financial models within tight deadlines; experience maintaining large databases a plus

·      Ability to establish action plans, handle multiple tasks and priorities and meet deliverables on time

·      Highly motivated self-starter with very strong analytical skills dedicated to completing tasks on schedule



·      Ensure integrity of the Company’s inventory valuation and cost of goods (materials and labor), including maintenance of standard costs, bill of materials (BOM), and reconciling inventory variances

·      Update weekly WIP process in ERP system and reconcile to the perpetual and general ledgers

·      Develop E&O reserve calculations and maintain adequate obsolescence reserves

·      Develop overhead labor & burden calculations and monitor rates on a quarterly basis

·      Develop and maintain standard cost data and perform periodic reconciliations and audits to changes in the BOM

·      Participate in month-end and year-end financial close including financial statement review

·      Assist in maintenance of the Company’s pricing model tool used cross functionally by finance, sales, engineering, and operations

·      Review, reconcile, and validate accuracy of transactions posted to the GL to ensure accurate recording to the correct product lines and projects

·      Participate in the daily operations meeting and assist with inventory and project expense coding

·      Lead the annual physical inventory process for both internal and external audits

·      Review cycle count results, research material variances, prepare reconciliation of the perpetual inventory to the general ledger, and report to senior management any issues identified

·      Monitor JDE ERP system for hung sales and issues with other transactions

·      Coordinate ERP issues with IT consultants and oversee timely resolution

·      Facilitate data requests by external parties (audit, tax, bankers, etc.) as needed

·      Assist with the implementation of ERP system upgrades, financial reporting, and general process enhancements

·      Perform ad hoc financial analysis and special projects to support finance, accounting, and leadership as needed



·      Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or other quantitative field of study

·      Manufacturing and engineering industry with prior cost accounting experience

·      Minimum 7+ years of relevant finance & accounting experience in mid-to-large size company strongly preferred; general ledger experience required

·      Experience working with large ERP systems; JD Edwards Enterprise One preferred

·      Experience working on a system implementation or upgrade

·      Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and excellent work ethic

·      Strong organizational and time management skills, solid reconciliation and analysis skills

·      Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with senior management

·      Ability to work effectively both individually and as a team under pressure to meet specific deadlines; ability to lead projects and exercise judgment to support and document conclusions

·      Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel functions (V-lookup, sumif(s), pivot tables, etc.) with proficiency in all other Microsoft Office products
