This weekend is packed with fun stuff to do. Here’s your weekly run-down:
Eat See Hear – A screening of
Lady Bird – June 30
On-site food options include cupcakes from Dreamy Creations, healthy eats from the Green Truck and Farmer’s Belly, and tacos etc. from Holy Moly. Doors open at 5:30, music starts at 7, and the screening begins at 8:30—be sure to arrive early to stake out the best seats.
The Humans – Through July 29
The four-time Tony winning play, which takes up residence at the Ahmanson downtown, is a heartbreaking and funny and revelatory depiction of family dynamics. A number of the original cast members from the Broadway run reprise their roles here.
Baja Market Food and Wine Festival – June 30
The folks at DTLA’s Chicas Tacos are celebrating the Valle De Guadalupe region of Mexico with a one-day taco and booze smorgasbord. Head to Chicas Tacos between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. to taste creations from chefs like Natalie Curie (El Coraloense) and Alex Chang (Exchange at Freehand) as well as sample beverages from more than 35 wineries and mezcal and tequila brands, all in celebration of this one region.
Made in L.A. – Through September 2
The Hammer’s biennial celebration of local artists is back in full force, this time with a roster of more than 30 makers whose ages range from 29-97. Curators Anne Ellegood and Erin Christovale have created a show focused on issues of representation as well as different aspects of the body; get a taste of what you can expect here, then head to the Westwood campus to see it all for yourself.
626 Night Market – June 29-July 1
The original and largest Asian-themed night market in the United States is back for another summer of gut-busting eats (plus music, games and an art walk), starting this weekend.
Stop by Santa Anita Park in Arcadia for drinks, desserts, and all kinds of Instagrammable eats, from a beverage-in-a-lightbulb situation from Bulba, sweets and more from Foody Lab (one home of that viral “raindrop cake“), and paella (what else) from Paella! Paella!.
Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival – June 30-September 2
The Independent Shakespeare Co. brings sonnets and soliloquies back to the Old Zoo at Griffith Park for another year, and they’re kicking this season off with A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Pack a low-back chair and a picnic (and maybe a thesaurus), and skip merrily off into the forest with Theseus and Hippolyta.
