Summer 2023 Hiring Reflections

While this summer’s cooldown could be viewed as economically foreboding, it’s important to remember new employees are typically less in demand during the vacationing season. With decision-makers OOO, the hiring process naturally slows.

 

This summer, however, may feel even more sluggish thanks to a significant uptick in travel. The major airlines saw profits more than double from 2022 stats, and United’s Labor Day bookings alone were up 35% from pre-pandemic numbers.

 

Despite this, the slow summer did see jobs added to the labor market.

 

The top industries for growth include:

 

  • Health Care
  • Social Services
  • Real Estate
  • Wholesale Trade

 

And the slowest? Financial services, but this is a trend we’ve been seeing all calendar year.
